Anzac Day
On 25 April India Campbell (Yr 5) delivered a reading at the Anzac Day dawn service at Hyde Park Corner in London. Anzac Day is a significant event for Australians and New Zealanders and commemorates the landing of the Australian & New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. This year was the 101st anniversary of the landing, and the 100th anniversary of the first commemorative dawn service in London in 1916.
This year's dawn service was attended by Prince Harry, numerous British, Australian and New Zealand dignitaries and a crowd of several thousand. The service was supported by the band of the Grenadier Guards and by a Maori choir. After the service India helped lay a wreath at the memorial and later attended a commemorative service at Westminster Abbey. She was lucky enough to talk to the Director of music of the Band of the Grenadier Guards and to sit next to Prince Harry!
