Aldenham School, Founded 1597

Drama

The children are led through their Drama by a specialist Speech and Drama Teacher.

Pupils are encouraged to take their LAMDA exams and participate in the Watford Festival.  Success in both increase year on year thanks to the enthusiasm of the pupils.

Watford Festival
All Speech and Drama pupils are given the opportunity to compete. At Aldenham we enter about 100 performances each year and we are known for being one of the main competing schools. The children compete in disciplines of verse recital, prose reading, mime and acting.

The 2017 Festival

More than 60 pupils from Years Three to Six entered the Watford Festival this year.

The 2017 Festival was one of our best years winning all the drama awards in the junior section;
Mime
Duo Acting
and the prestigious Navapurkar Shield for the best performance of the Festival beating over 600 entries.

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art)
We are registered as an exam centre and hold 2 exams sessions per year in Prep. All Speech and Drama Pupils take individual Verse and Prose exams from year three and I am looking to start group exams for Pre Prep. 100% pass rate and most achieve the highest grades.

Drama Lessons
All pupils from Years One to Six have fortnightly Drama lessons learning the foundations of the Drama curriculum taught at senior school level. The ethos is confidence building and presentation, vital for their future in a competitive world where extra personal skills are now a necessity.

Pupils also perform at various occasions throughout the school year amongst them; the Foundation Stage Nativity Play, Spring Concert, Harvest Festival and the always much anticipated Year 6 productions.
